Maurice W. Bills, a WWII US Navy Veteran, peacefully passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Maurice was 97.
Maurice Wendell Bills was born August 12, 1925 in Perry, Iowa to Harold and Helen (Coleman) Bills. He grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and graduated from Washington High in 1944. Following graduation, Maurice enlisted with the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946.
On August 25, 1946, Maurice was united in marriage to Shirley Woolheater in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple resided in Sioux Falls and they soon became loving parents to their 4 sons, Terry, Thomas, Gerald, and James.
Maurice was a longtime employee at John Morrell Co. He worked as the assistant foreman and foreman until his retirement in 1987. Following retirement, Maurice enjoyed delivering flowers for Cliff Avenue Greenhouse. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, yard work, flowers, and woodworking.
Maurice was a member of the 1st Christian Church of Sioux Falls, American Legion, VFW, and Moose Lodge.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Terry (Patricia) Bills of Highland, IN, Thomas (Terri) Bills of Sioux Falls, Gerald (LeeAnn) Bills of Sioux Falls and James Bills of Sioux Falls; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Eunice Bye of Sioux Falls and Geraldine (Stanley) Drenth of Hartford, SD.
Maurice was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents, Harold and Helen Bills; daughter-in-law, Valerie Bills; brothers, Howard, Richard and David; and sister, Doris Brookfield.
The funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at First Christian Church, 524 West 13th, Sioux Falls SD 57104. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Miller Funeral Home – Downtown, 507 South Main Avenue, Sioux Falls SD 57104.
